Back Surgery

November 25, 2013

I had back surgery on October 31st and it was a very scary time, but God kept me safe and saw me through.  During surgery I had a severe asthma attack so they had to stop surgery.  I was kept in recovery about 10 hours due to a very low oxygen level, breathing issues, heavy chest, they thought I might even have a blood clot in my lungs, etc.  During this time I felt like I was dying and by the look on the faces of my doctor and nurse – they were having the same kind of thoughts.  I have since returned to see my neurosurgeon and he told me of how concerned he was and had bad that I scared him.  My neurosurgeon is an awesome, caring person and I had the most wonderful recovery nurse that stayed with me during the entire 10 hour ordeal – – even going with me for nuclear test, scans, other tests.  She held my hand many times and I told her that I felt like I was dying and I thought if I closed my eyes that I wouldn’t wake up.  I could actually feel the life fading out of me.   … I prayed for God to spare me to be with my family and see my boys grow up and have families of their own.  My neurosurgeon would come and be with me in recovery between other surgeries.  I thought to myself “so this is what it feels like to be dying”.  After an hour or so of being in recovery the nurse said she was going to make a BIG exception and go get my husband to be with me as well.  She said the hospital doesn’t allow any family to come in recovery, but she felt that this one time she needed to make an exception.  It was nice to have my sweet hubby for support as I fought for my life.  The recovery room was a very large rectangular room with surgery patients lined up on each side but with plenty of room for nurses and doctors moving about.  In the mean time my husband, Joe, had called for prayer from church groups, family, and friends. During the time of my ordeal I did think – well, I guess I will get to see Jesus, Lisa, Paul, Uncle Merle, Aunt Sue, Aunt Virginia, Aunt Pat, Aunt Annie, and many other friends and family that have passed on. I went through many tests, scans, and an hour of doing a nuclear test to see if a blood clot had gone to my lungs.  During the test I started to slowly feel better and started having thoughts that I might even be able to stay on this earth a little longer.  Within the next hour my oxygen level went back to normal, the heaviness of feeling like an elephant was sitting on my chest went away, and I knew that God had answered prayers.  They never found what caused some of my issues during and after surgery – God just simply made it disappear.  I praise God that I am alive and able to be with my family.  I am on the mend, I no longer have constant sciatic nerve pain, numbness, and tingling in my right leg and foot.  Praise God!  My Fibromyalgia has flared as expected after surgery, but that is something that I deal with on a daily basis.  Blessing friends!

God Thing

December 7, 2012

I had a “God Thing” happen in the ICU waiting room of Sparks Hospital.  There was a hispanic family that had a family member there so they were eating and sleeping in the waiting room.  Joe and I went back separately to tell my parents goodbye so I was in the ICU waiting room by myself until this 19-year-old hispanic girl came in.  We starting talking and realized that we both had our Dad in ICU.  She asked about my Dad, so I told her he was doing good and would be going home the next day.  When I asked about her Dad she teared up and said that he was really bad and they didn’t know what would happen.  I told her that “God is in control of everything so he is in control of your Dad’s healing”.  She said they had been there for 3 weeks already and her Dad, Cleo, was not doing well.  I asked if I could pray with her – she agreed and put out her hands out to me.  I took her hands and  prayed for her Dad, Cleo, for healing, for her to have faith and strength, and to be with the family and give them strength.  Afterward she thanked me and went back to sit down while I was standing – waiting for Joe to come back out of ICU.  God instantly told me “GIVE HER $30!”.  If you have every been every told something by God you know the feeling – you have to do it.  I thought  – this is going to be a little uncomfortable, but God told me to do it.  I opened my purse and I reached in to get $30 but picked up $40 and thought that I would go ahead and give this to her.  God told me again “Give her $30.  So I took the money over to her, I folded it up and put it in her hand.  I told her that I wanted to give her money to help with buying food while they were there.  She said “No, but.. but…. but…”I told her that God told me to help them and I would continue to pray for her Dad Cleo.

So, Friends and Family, Please put Cleo on your prayer list.  He is around my age, 51, and he has a wife and 3 daughters in their early 20s that need their Dad.  Like I told her “God can work miracles.”

God Does Work Miracles

December 7, 2012

MiraclesMy Dad, Ed McClain, had abdominal aeorta anurysm surgery on Tuesday and everything went well.  He got to go home yesterday.  He did run a high fever for a while but then it broke so he is still doing good .  Praise God!  Thanks for all you prayers.

Uncle Bill (my Dad’s Brother) was getting ready to ride up to the hospital with Aunt Chris (my Dad’s and his sister) to be there while my Dad had surgery.  He had a stroke so Aunt Chris took him to the nearest hospital.  We didn’t know for a while the extent of it or what had happened.  The family was going back and forth from Sparks Hospital to Poteau Hospital making sure they were each ok.  The next day Uncle Bill got feeling back in his leg and a little in his arm.  The doctor told him that they were put him in a Rehad Hospital for two weeks so see how much movement they could get back in his arm and hand.  God does work miracles!  By the next day Uncle Bill had most/if not all of the use of his arms, hands, & legs.  He didn’t have to go to rehab  – so the doctor sent him home yesterday as well.  God answered many prayers during this weekend for our family.
