Shots!! Make the Pain Go Away…… PLEASE!!

I have been having so much back pain and hip pain that I have been getting Lumbar Epidural Injections and today I was sent to see an Orthopaedic Surgeon.  He ended up giving me a steroid shot in my bursitis area in my left hip.  He says that my left hip is covered in arthritis, bone spurs, pinching the nerve that causes my sciatica nerve issues.  My bruise is lovely that I got today.  The steroid shot  helped me so much by noon that I was doing little projects that I haven’t been able to do (just light work).  THEN, I went outside to get the mail and the grass was wet.  When I came back in I walked across our living room carpet in my tennis shoes, then onto the tile in the kitchen.  I made it by the refrigerator and fell so hard on my right knee and my left hip.  I pulled the area that had been hurting so much before the steroid shot in my hip.   AARRGG.  I was so upset that I called my husband to come home early to be with me.  I was in the floor crying, I was pissed, in pain, frustrated because every time it seems I get better I get knocked down with pain or fatigue in some way.  Right now I am pretty sick of this Fibro thing, the hip issue, and the back issue.  Someone make it go away!!!  They say that I will eventually need back surgery.  I won’t get pain relief from the sciatic nerve until I have the back surgery.  The nerve is being pinched so badly that all it knows to do is PAIN.  I also have the bulging disc, lots of arthritis, degenerative spurring, ventral flattening of the thecal sac, degenerative changes are most prominent at L4-L5 where there is a broad posterior and left foraminal disc protrusion with bony spurring.  There is moderate to severe left foraminal stenosis at L4-L5 with displacement and compression fo the exiting left L4 nerve root.  So……. sometime in the future I will be having back surgery.  They say this is the only thing that will help relieve my back and sciatica nerve pain.  I think I will try the shots for a while and when I just can’t stand it anymore – I wll schedule the surgery.

So tell me – have you taken pain pills, pain shots, epidural injections for pain, steroid shots?  Tell me your experience I would love to hear it.

I’m so sorry to hear this Ginger. I hope the after-effects aren’t too long lasting. As for your final question, I get none of these. My doctor won’t give me anything more than codeine, which doesn’t absolutely nothing so now I don’t even take it. I’m with you. I hate fibro. Why is it that every day there is something? 😦

So true Sweet Friend, Some days it is easier to cope with all the symptoms, fatigue, and pain…. but today was not one of them. I am shooting for tomorrow as a good day.

Suzie takes collagen and it made a massive difference. We can give you lots of info. My email is I think you follow my blog about living with a fibro filly.

  3. Oh wow. I’m so sorry that you are going through this. It sounds an awful lot like the kind of pain I’ve been having in my back and throughout my left side from the hip, through the knee on down to my toes & the sole of my foot. Coughing & sneezing can almost put me on the floor, the pain is so intense. No insurance means no actual way of knowing what is causing it, but it is amplifying my fibro symptoms. I am glad you are getting shots that offer some relief. I’m on the verge of going to the ER.

Oh I so feel your pain. I slipped on some ice almost 2 years ago and my knee is still screwed up. It getting infected when I got the cat scratch didn’t help things either.

As for the back stuff, the shots did nothing for me. Physical therapy did nothing. I finally had the surgery and have no regrets. n I had disc issues in the same area as you. After healing from the surgery, I have had zero pain from the disc issues. Even now, the hip pain I do have is either from the fibro or arthritis.

Give the spinal shots a couple tries, but if they don’t work, they probably won’t. Go for the surgery. I know places are doing it laproscopically (sp?) with the little tiny incisions. Mine was open so recovery was a bitch.

    • Ginger Ray Says:

Thanks so much for you comments. I will check out the Laparoscopy instead of open. I let a doctor kind of talk me into an open shoulder operation and I could have had Laparoscopy and the recovery was TERRIBLE. Fibro flares up so bad with anything like that and having the open wound and now scar tissue is not a good thing. From now on I am checking everything possible out for myself. I am too trusting of people, expecially doctors- since most of them act like they know it all. :0)

Hang in there. I’ve been feeling similar lately – like every time I feel like I’m making progress and my fibromyalgia is getting better, my pain knocks me on my butt and I’m back at rock bottom again. it’s so draining physically, mentally and emotionally.

I also have a ton of tightness and alignment issues in my back, neck and hips. Have you seen an osteopath. That’s a DO not an MD. I’ve see might once a month for 6 years now. She pops and shifts everything back into place, even my vertebrae that have moved out of alignment. I’ve also started seeing a cranial massage therapist. She’s more like phyiscal therapy than massage. She uses her hands and gravity to help slowly shift everything back to where it’s supposed to be. She’s helped me a ton with my bad TMJ problems and how tight my hips and low back are. Maybe both of these options would help you too. I don’t know if it would mean no surgery for you but it might stave that off for awhile. Hang in there!

Please have a look at my blog livingwithafibrofilly it takes about what Suzie takes to help her with the fibro.
Get in touch if you want more info or google Xenca Collagen and Five a Day+.

Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

  7. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain! I have had sciatica for the last 10 weeks and I thought that was painful, but codeine and ibuprofen gave me some relief. Worse than the pain was the incapacity. I hope things improve for you. 😉

  8. Wytewing Says:

Hiya, sorry u had a fall, as a terminally clumsy person I can sympathise. I am jealous though, I have had cortisone injections into my bursitis on both hips and all it did was flare my fibro and make it worse. The dr that did them with ultrasound guidance said he wouldn’t do it again, we tried three times, and no luck. I swelled up so badly after that even my fat pants didn’t fit 😦

    • Ginger Ray Says:

So sorry the injections didn’t help you. Isn’t it strange how EVERYTHING we do flares our Fibro. It’s almost like if you change your nail color it flares Fibro. Ok, not quite that bad, but seriously the flares are terrible and too frequent. I did swell and had bruising, but after a few days now the swelling is gone. Thanks for your comments – nice talking to you. Blessings, low pain, & extra energy sent your way!

I would love for you to comment. What do you think?
